Malawi is one of the least developed countries in the world, with a poverty rate of about 50.7% as of 2022.
Access to basic sanitary products remains a major challenge, particularly in rural areas where more than 80% of the population lives.
Many women and girls in Malawi rely on unhygienic alternatives such as old cloth or repurposed disposable pads due to the unaffordability of single-use products.
This lack of access to proper menstrual hygiene leads to serious health risks, including infections, and contributes to school absenteeism.
Over 1 in 10 girls in Malawi miss school during menstruation.
Through manufacturing in Malawi, NORA is tackling poverty and unemployment by creating dignified jobs for women—helping them gain skills, earn fair wages, and build community. We’ve partnered closely with Grace Pads, sharing a facility and working hand in hand to expand opportunities for women. Grace Pads has long been a leader in making affordable, reusable menstrual products and hygiene kits in Malawi, and together we’re able to share resources, strengthen training, and increase our collective impact.
By supplying our team with reusable pads and encouraging open conversations around periods, we help reduce stigma while ensuring women and girls in surrounding communities have access to the products they need.

NORA Pads Changing Lives

“Buying disposable pads every month was too expensive for my family. Sometimes I had to go without. Nora Pads have helped me feel safe and comfortable without worrying about money.”
